Laser Hair Removal In G.T.A: The Complete Guide

Thinking about laser hair removal but still have a million questions? You’re definitely not the only one.

Between shaving every few days, dealing with razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and trying to figure out which laser actually works for your skin and hair type, there’s a lot to know before starting.

At Paris Laser Clinic, we’ve helped clients across the Greater Toronto Area make laser hair removal part of their regular self-care routine. So we put together a simple, no-confusing-science guide to what laser hair removal actually does, what to expect, and how to get the most out of your sessions.

Basically: everything we wish someone told you before your first laser appointment. ✨

So… How Does Laser Hair Removal Actually Work?

Laser hair removal sounds way more complicated than it actually is.

The laser targets the pigment (melanin) in your hair and delivers energy down into the hair follicle. That energy helps damage the follicle so it becomes less effective at producing new hair.

But here’s the part people don’t always realize: not every hair is growing at the same time. Laser works best when the hair is in its active growth phase, which is exactly why you need multiple sessions instead of one magical appointment.

As your treatments continue, you may start noticing hair growing back slower, finer, and more sparsely. And yes, getting to shave less often is definitely one of our favourite parts. 🤭

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt? Be Real 😭

Probably one of the first questions everyone asks us.

The answer? It depends on the area, your sensitivity, and the technology being used — but laser hair removal shouldn’t feel like torture.

At Paris Laser Clinic, we use Soprano ICE Platinum, which combines laser wavelengths with cooling technology designed to make treatments more comfortable.

Most clients describe the sensation as warmth or a mild prickly feeling, and some areas can definitely feel spicier than others. 🌶️

Bikini area? You might notice it. Legs? You may wonder why you were so nervous.

How Many Sessions Do You Actually Need?

We wish we could say there’s one magic number, but everyone’s hair growth is different.

Most people need a series of treatments because laser can only effectively target hairs that are in the active growth phase at the time of your appointment. Since your hairs are all on their own little schedules, multiple sessions give us the chance to catch more of them at the right time.

How many sessions you need can depend on things like:

  • The area being treated

  • Hair colour and thickness

  • Skin tone

  • Hormonal factors

  • Your natural hair-growth cycle

  • How consistently you keep up with appointments

You may notice changes along the way — slower regrowth, patchier areas, and finer hair — but consistency is where the magic happens. ✨

And once you’ve completed your initial series? Some people choose occasional maintenance sessions depending on how their hair responds over time.

Basically: laser is a journey, but so is shaving for the rest of your life. Pick your fighter. 😭

Why Your Laser Technology Matters

Not all laser hair removal is created equal — and the technology being used matters.

At Paris Laser Clinic, we don’t believe every client should automatically be treated the exact same way. That’s why we offer two advanced laser platforms: Soprano ICE Platinum and DEKA Motus AX.

Soprano ICE Platinum combines three laser wavelengths — Alexandrite, Diode and Nd:YAG — into one applicator. Its in-motion treatment method and cooling technology allow larger areas to be treated gradually while keeping comfort in mind.

Then there’s our DEKA Motus AX, featuring Moveo technology and an Alexandrite laser wavelength. Traditional Alexandrite lasers are known for their effectiveness on melanin in the hair, while the Motus system uses its Moveo delivery method to progressively deliver energy while reducing energy loss at the skin’s surface.

So which one is better?

That’s the thing — there isn’t one answer for everybody.

Your skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness, treatment area and previous laser experience can all play a role in determining the approach we recommend.

Having both technologies means we’re able to assess the person in front of us rather than trying to fit every client into the same treatment.

Your laser treatment should be personalized to you — not just whatever machine happens to be in the room. ✨

Can Laser Hair Removal Work on Different Skin Tones?

Yes — but the technology, settings, and person performing your treatment matter.

Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment in the hair, which means skin tone needs to be considered when choosing the right treatment approach. This is especially important for deeper skin tones, where there is naturally more melanin in the skin.

At Paris Laser Clinic, we work with a wide range of skin tones and customize treatments based on your skin, hair, treatment area, and individual response rather than using the exact same settings for everyone.

Having access to both Soprano ICE Platinum and DEKA Motus AX also gives our technicians different treatment options when determining the most appropriate approach for each client.

And this is exactly why your consultation matters. 👀

Your friend’s laser settings aren’t your laser settings — and they shouldn’t be.

The goal is always to find the right balance between safety, comfort, and effective treatment for your skin and hair.

What Areas Can You Get Lasered?

The short answer? Pretty much anywhere you have unwanted hair. 😂

Some of the most popular laser hair removal areas include:

  • Face and neck

  • Underarms

  • Arms

  • Legs

  • Bikini and Brazilian

  • Stomach

  • Back and shoulders

  • Chest

  • Hands and feet

And yes, full-body laser hair removal is absolutely an option if you’re officially over organizing your shaving routine by body part. 😭

Women aren’t the only ones doing it either. Men’s laser hair removal is increasingly popular for areas like the back, chest, shoulders, neck and beard line.

Whether you’re treating one small area or going full body, your treatment plan can be customized around where your hair grows and what you actually want treated.

What Should You Do Before Your Appointment?

A little prep goes a long way — but don’t worry, your pre-laser routine is pretty simple.

Before your appointment:

  • Shave the treatment area as instructed by your clinic, typically about 24 hours beforehand.

  • Skip waxing, threading, or plucking between sessions. Laser needs the hair follicle to be present to do its job.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning before treatment, and let your technician know about any recent tanning.

  • Come with clean skin when possible — no lotions, oils, deodorant, or heavy products on the treatment area.

  • Tell us about medications or changes to your health before your session so your technician can determine whether treatment is appropriate.

  • And please don’t grow your hair out because you think the laser needs to “see” it. 😭 We need the follicle — not a week’s worth of growth.

  • When in doubt, ask us before your appointment. We’d much rather answer a quick question than have you show up unsure.

What About After Your Appointment?

Temporary redness, warmth, or sensitivity can happen, so giving the treated area a little extra TLC is a good idea.

For the first little while after treatment:

  • Avoid excessive heat, including hot tubs, saunas and very hot showers, as directed by your technician.

  • Be gentle with the area and avoid aggressive scrubbing or exfoliation until the skin has settled.

  • Protect treated skin from the sun and use appropriate sun protection.

  • Avoid waxing, threading and plucking between your laser sessions.

  • Follow any personalized aftercare instructions your technician gives you.

  • And here’s something that surprises a lot of first-timers: seeing hairs after laser doesn’t necessarily mean they’re growing back. Treated hairs can gradually shed following your appointment.

So no, you don’t need to stare at your legs every morning wondering if the laser worked. 😂 Give your skin and hair cycle some time to do their thing.

Consistency + proper aftercare = a much happier laser journey. ✨
